Well, I've finally taken the plunge and got a blog of my own. Poor Julia has been so patient, but I know that I have driven her crazy with my lack of computer skills.
So here goes... Welcome to the inner bowels of my chaotic studio!! Here's a few new paintings...

Great Blue Heron 18 x 8''oil
I completely forgot about this Heron painting. He's my favorite subject. He's always in the Creek opposite our house. I like to sneak up on him occasionally... This is the result.
lovely painting.i love the simplicity and the lighting in this piece.the steely colour of the water is spot on,i really struggle trying to achieve just this colour.hope you dont mind me asking but do you achieve the colour by mixing on the palette or by glazing several layers?
Thanks for the comments. Clive firstly, of course I don't mind you asking. When I painted in acrylics It was all about glazing. With oils I just mix the colors on the palette. Shane, I spend hours sneaking up on this heron. He was out there yesterday and wouldn't let me anywhere near other days I can get quite close. He must know me by now I must have painted him over a dozen times. I am so pleased you like my birds. I love Herons and Egrets.
Hi Johnny, It's so great to hear from you. Glad you like the new paintings. I have to check out your blog to see what you have been up to! All the Best,
Wonderful! I love herons.
ReplyDeleteYour birds are incredible! I find it hard to sneak up on any kind of bird when I'm drawing, great work!

Hey Matt, I love this! The simplicity of the composition makes me think, "why didn't I do that".
